Are you aware of present day expected standards?
Many of us are blissfully unaware that if the insulation in our lofts reaches flush to the level of the joists, that is way below current expected standards. It means that the insulation thickness is about 4 inches. The current accepted standard is 10 inches. If you are in that situation, you are entitled to have the addition installed for free or at a heavily subsidised rate. Loft insulation is the most cost effective improvement that can be made to the insulation of our homes.
It is free if anyone in the household is over 70.
For a short time only, it is free if anyone is over 60.
Subject to funding running out, it is free if any occupant is under 5.
It is free if any occupant is on a disability or income related benefit.
It is free if the household is in fuel poverty; that is if more than 10% of household income is spent on fuel bills.
For all others there is a significant subsidy amounting to around half the cost of materials and labour.
Anyone can claim a free insulation inspection of his or her home. There are further entitlements such as cavity wall insulation.
